CXCL8 and neoplasm: Wang et al. (2011) have shown that autocrine IL-8 secretion by tumor cells induced their chemoresistance, while inhibiting IL-8 was able to re-sensitize the tumor cells to cisplatin and paclitaxel. These data suggest that IL-8, as well as other ligands of CXC chemokine receptors 1 and 2 (CXCR1/2) could be involved in the chemoresistance acquisition via the recruitment of MSCs around the tumor (Wang et al., 2011).
