Lupus can be induced by exposing a wild type mouse strain (BALB/c) to hydrocarbon oils such as pristane (2,6,10,14-tetramethylpentadecane) that generates a wide range of specific SLE autoantibodies (anti-dsDNA, anti-RNP/Sm and anti-Su) between 12 to 25 weeks after induction with 0.5 mL of intraperitoneal injection of pristane[12–14]. Here, RNPC3 is linked to systemic lupus erythematosus.
