In our previous research, we found that wild‐type p53‐induced gene 1 (WIG‐1) could effectively reverse the malignant phenotype, suppress cell proliferation, and induce G0/G1 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in EC109 cells under zinc deficiency conditions.5, 6 Furthermore, by yeast‐two‐hybrid analysis we showed that U three protein 14a (UTP14a) directly binds to WIG‐1; UTP14a might therefore be a direct downstream target of WIG‐1 (K.K. Li et al. unpublished data). Here, UTP14A is linked to Zinc deficiency.
