The inverse correlation between HDL‐C and the incidence of cardiovascular disease has been well established in numerous studies of different populations.6, 7, 9, 21 However, many tested therapies failed to decrease cardiovascular events by improving HDL values.21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 A promising class of agents that increase HDL‐C by blocking CETP also failed to consistently demonstrate protective effects. This evidence concerns the gene CETP and cardiovascular disorder.
