Clinical observations suggest that phosphorylated CREB is aberrantly sequestered in hippocampal neurons in Alzheimer’s disease with generalized disruption of CREB-mediated signaling (Satoh et al., 2009), BDNF regulation of synaptic plasticity, and neurogenesis (Cunha et al., 2010; Hollands et al., 2016; Moreno-Jiménez et al., 2019). The gene discussed is BDNF; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
