FABP1 and acute kidney injury: The genetic link with hypoxia-inducible factor 1⍺, together with findings indicating that urinary L-FABP levels are strongly correlated with the duration of ischemia in kidney transplant recipients [113], suggests that urinary L-FABP may provide an indication that the mechanism of this risk of AKI is related to proximal tubule hypoxemia and the development of oxidative stress (Figure 1).
