Over-expression of SPRY4-IT1 has been shown to induce EZH245, a transcription factor that is over-expressed in the anterior cingulate cortex of patients with schizophrenia compared to controls and has been suggested to participate in the schizophrenia either via interference with developmental processes or through abnormal reactivation of gene expression in the adult brain37. This evidence concerns the gene HAUS3 and schizophrenia.
