Interestingly, PTX3 immunostaining in pathological bladders from BBN-treated wild-type mice revealed that PTX3 expression (absent in normal/untreated bladders; data not shown) is present during the in situ carcinoma stage and disappears or is highly reduced when tumors become invasive and more aggressive (Figure 6C). The gene discussed is PTX3; the disease is in situ carcinoma.
