Using data from a retrospective cohort study of RYGB-treated obese patients with T2DM, Still et al. identified four preoperative clinical variables (insulin treatment, patient age, HbA1c and type of antidiabetic agents), which were integrated into a scoring system (DiaRem score) to calculate the probability of T2DM remission (partial or complete as defined by the ADA) 5 years after surgery. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
