Those who died were more likely to be older (p = 0.007), a smoker (7% vs. 1%; p = 0.008), had a body weight < 50 kg (38% vs. 33%; p = 0.023), had unexplained anaemia (Haemoglobin (Hb) < 10 g/dl) (49% vs. 25%; p = 0.004), had an opportunistic infection other than TB (27% vs. 3%; p = 0.001) and received no ART during TB treatment (33% vs. 11%; p < 0.001). This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and Opportunistic infection.
