A total of two out of 10 aged CXCR5−/− female mice indicated abnormalities consistent with the geographic atrophy (GA) when examined by fundus images with presence of a large white spot in visible light, with autofluorescence at 488 nm excitation (Figure 2I) and H&E staining of the same eye (Figure 2J). Here, CXCR5 is linked to atrophic macular degeneration.
