Since ezrin is an important mediator of L1CAM-dependent processes (see below) and is transcriptionally upregulated downstream of β1 integrins in CRC [45], it appears that one of the functions of the ECD is to transcriptionally regulate the cytoplasmic factors required for signal transduction towards tumor promoting processes, including proliferation, migration and metastasis. Here, L1CAM is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
