DNM1L and Alzheimer disease: Aβ mediated activation of CDK5 can cause phosphorylation of Ser-585 which upregulates Drp1, which inhibits biogenesis, increases oxidative damage caused by ROS overproduction, and causes increase of glutamate binding to N-methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptors, inhibiting Ca2+ cation flow necessary for memory and learning, the cognitive decline characteristic of AD pathology.
