BAX and cancer: At certain concentration, it can either serve as apoptosis-inhibiting agent via inhibiting the pro-apoptotic B-cell lymphoma-2-associated X protein (Bax), caspase-3, 8, 12, and enhancing the anti-apoptotic B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) (71), or as apoptosis-inducing agent via the contrast mechanisms (72), suggesting its potential in protecting normal cells from anti-cancer drugs or in suppressing cancer cells.
