SNCA and Parkinson disease: Increased susceptibility was also found in rostral pontine areas and in a cortical pattern consistent with known PD distributions of α-synuclein pathology: abnormalities were identified in the brainstem comprising the rostral pons (including pyramidal tracts and pontine tegmental areas co-localized with the site of the locus coeruleus), the superior cerebellar peduncle and caudal mesencephalon-seemingly spreading across pars compacta/ventral tegmental SN subregions and midbrain tegmental areas-, possibly also including dorsal raphe and oculomotor nuclei.
