Calcitonin-related polypeptide alpha (CALCA, α-CGRP) is a 37 amino acid neuropeptide with extensive biological effects and is one of the mediators of neurogenic inflammation.[13] CGRP-related genes are good candidates to screen for an association with migraine susceptibility as several lines of evidence suggest that α-CGRP is a key player in migraine pathology. Here, CALCA is linked to migraine disorder.
