The aggregation of proteins into amyloid fibrils and plaques, under abnormal physiological conditions, is a phenomenon common to a range of human amyloid diseases including amyloid beta (Aβ) for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), α-synuclein for Parkinson’s disease (PD), and human islet amyloid polypeptide for type 2 diabetes (T2D)1.
