Studies have proven that in obesity, WAT increases the production and release of pro-inflammatory adipokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), which contribute to the development of insulin resistance [8,9,10,11], while the expression and secretion of anti-inflammatory adiponectin decreases [11]. This evidence concerns the gene CCL2 and obesity disorder.
