In a nine-week intervention, Nordentoft et al. demonstrated that the more bioavailable Stevioside derivative, isosteviol (ISV), was capable of decreasing the glucose-insulin index, i.e., reducing insulin resistance, and preventing development of a severe state of diabetes when fed to genetically obese diabetic KKay mice at a dose of 20 mg/kg/day [30]. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
