PITX2 and atrial fibrillation: In this context, Gore-Panter et al. [80] exploring the possible relationship between Pitx2 and these AF risk variants, identified a long intergenetic non-coding RNA adjacent to Pitx2, dubbed as Pancr. Pancr is expressed in the adult left atrium and in lower levels in the adult eye, and shows a coordinate expression with Pitx2c, during the differentiation of cardiomyocytes regulating positively the expression of Pitx2c mRNA by a yet unknown mechanism.
