More recently, it has been discovered that LRRK2 also phosphorylates other Rab proteins, including Rab5, Rab3, Rab8, Rab10, Rab12, Rab35, and Rab43 [123,124], and dysregulation of Rab phosphorylation in the LRRK2 site causes neurodegeneration in primary neurons [125], thus suggesting a critical role for Rab GTPases and membrane trafficking in the LRRK2-caused PD. Here, RAB8A is linked to Parkinson disease.
