Christopher C. Porter et al. reported that the inhibition of WEE1 prevents cytarabine-induced S phase arrest in acute myeloid leukemia.14 Moreover, Wei et al. demonstrated that WEE1 degradation contributes to Smurf1-regulated S phase progression.15 Therefore, WEE1 upregulation may explain the S phase arrest after SMYD3 inhibition. Here, SMURF1 is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
