Interestingly, Whitehall II study [36] showed that higher adiponectin levels were associated with a more favourable development of cardiovascular autonomic function in individuals with type 2 diabetes independently of multiple confounders, and another study showed that low plasma total adiponectin is related to an increased risk of 5-year mortality after first-ever ischemic stroke, independently of other adverse predictors [37]. This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
