In Arteriviruses, Gp5/M dimers, which are essential for EAV budding, were shown to be located primarily in the Golgi apparatus (co-localization with mannosidase II), although at subsequent time points of the infection, the M was also present in the ER [35] and Golgi localization was not achieved if the dimer formation was blocked. This evidence concerns the gene GP5 and infection.
