SOX10 and melanoma: Recent studies have provided evidence that SOX10 occupies a key regulatory node in the response to MAPK signaling in the nucleus: SOX10 emerged from a shRNA screen for genes that confer resistance to BRAF and MEK inhibitors via upregulation of EGFR and PDGFRB [47], and SOX10 is directly phosphorylated by ERK as part of a regulatory axis involving ERK1/2, SOX10, FOXD3, and ERBB3 that mediates adaptive resistance to RAF inhibitors in BRAF mutant melanoma cells [49].
