CD274 and neoplasm: Programmed cell death-1(PD-1) is a checkpoint receptor protein expressed by activated T cells that binds to the programmed cell death ligands (PD-Ls) expressed by antigen presenting cells and tumor cells, resulting in the inhibition of T-cell proliferation, survival, and effector functions [1] Blocking antibodies against the PD-1/PD-L1 show clinical benefit (e.g. pembrolizumab has demonstrated overall response rates of 21%-34% in several tumor types [2]).
