Initially, a number of small-scale trials investigated the effect of anakinra, a recombinant form of the IL-1 receptor antagonist, on inflammation and cardiac remodeling in stable-STEMI and non-STEMI patients (27, 28) and reported that IL-1 inhibition reduced inflammation after MI but had little effect on cardiac function in the longer term. Here, IL1B is linked to myocardial infarction.
