Figure 2D indicates that morphological changes of the nuclei observed in cells undergoing apoptosis, such as nuclear fragmentation and chromatin condensation, were commonly found in LCA-treated T24 cells. To quantify the apoptosis triggered by LCA, annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)/propidium iodide (PI) double staining assay was conducted. As shown in Figure 2E,F, the results of the flow cytometric analysis showed that the percentage of annexin V+/PI− cells and annexin V+/PI+ cells was markedly increased in LCA-treated cells in a dose-dependent manner. Here, ANXA5 is linked to Leber congenital amaurosis.
