Anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agents prescribed to treat IBD havemany targets including cyclooxygenase (COX), lipoxygenase (LOX), tumornecrosis factor alpha (TNFα), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), anddihydrofolate reductase (DHFR).6,7 However, thesemedications do not address malnutrition and several may contribute tonutrient deficiencies and anemia.
