EWSR1 and Ewing sarcoma: Surprisingly, the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway partially antagonizes the transcriptional function of the fusion protein EWS/FLI1 (found in the majority of Ewing sarcomas), resulting in an up regulation of metastasis-promoting genes that are normally repressed by EWS/FLI1 and consequently, the acquisition of a more migratory phenotype.
