CLEC5A is a C‐type lectin receptor implicated in the progression of multiple acute and chronic inflammatory diseases.4 It has now been identified that interacts with an envelope protein on the dengue virus to specifically induce the production of pro‐inflammatory cytokines by macrophages during infection.14 It is critical for dengue virus–induced osteoclast activation and bone homeostasis. The gene discussed is CLEC5A; the disease is infection.
