In the murine model of adjuvant-induced arthritis, we had previously shown that subchronic local cryotherapy—especially local ice—applied twice a day for 14 consecutive days significantly reduced local and systemic IL-6, both at the gene and protein levels, compared to non-treated arthritic controls, with no effect on local and systemic TNF-α [11]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is arthritic joint disease.
