This was further confirmed with a reduced enzyme activity of the glycolytic enzyme; Glyceraldehyde-3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (GAPDH) in HS (0.018 ± 0.022 μmol/min/mg of protein; p < 0.05) and COPD subjects (0.013 ± 0.016 μmol/min/mg of protein; p < 0.01) as compared to HNS (0.046 ± 0.06 nmol/min/mg of protein). This evidence concerns the gene GAPDH and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
