ADSL and cancer: While the role of antimicrobial peptides in innate immune defense has been well-recognised for decades (Bahar and Ren, 2013), recent reports revealed potential additional physiological functions of AMPs, including ageing and neurodegeneration (Cao et al., 2014; Kounatidis et al., 2017; Lezi et al., 2018), wound-healing (Chung et al., 2017; Tokumaru et al., 2005), resistance to oxidative stress (Mergaert et al., 2017; Zhao et al., 2011), immune signaling (Tjabringa et al., 2003; van Wetering et al., 2002) and anti-cancer activity (Deslouches and Di, 2017).
