VEGFA and breast cancer: Melatonin antiangiogenic effects are exerted directly on several important proteins in this process such as VEGF and angiopoietins (ANG-1 and ANG-2), by down-regulating VEGF expression in breast cancer cells and reducing the proliferation as well as the migration of endothelial cells, disrupting tube formation and counteracting the VEGF-stimulated capillary network formation (Alvarez-García et al., 2013a,b; Cos et al., 2014; González-González et al., 2018).
