When comparing mean fluorescence intensities, a three-way ANOVA for repeated measures with cell type and cytokine as within-subjects factors and infection status as between-subjects factor revealed a highly significant three-way interaction of cell type, cytokine, and infection status (F1, 8 = 15.54, p = 0.004), reflecting an increased expression of IFN-γ in CD4+ lymphocytes (post hoc two-sample t test: t4.3 = 2.31, p = 0.036, one-tailed), while no further significant differences were observed (all t < 0.916, all p > 0.197, one-tailed). The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is infection.
