In glioblastomas, methylation of the MGMT promotor leading to gene silencing and lower levels of MGMT expression is a frequent event, and the methylation status of MGMT was shown to correlate with the protein expression level (determined by immunohistochemistry) and to be a reliable prognostic marker of response to TMZ [1,6,7]. The gene discussed is MGMT; the disease is glioblastoma.
