In summary, we believe that the dysregulation of intracellular ROS levels induced by chemotherapeutic agents was able to damage cancer cells through the activation of autophagy-related cell death; however, the upregulation of YAP in drug-resistant cells inhibits ROS production and maintains the activation of mTOR protein, thereby blocking the process of autophagy-related cell death and promoting chemoresistance (Fig. 7).
