MUC1 and pancreatitis: Our data showed that Muc-1KO animals had an approximately 4-fold decrease in the number of cells with nuclear expression of NF-κB, suggesting that knockout of Muc-1 inhibits expression and activation of NF-κB during viral infection (Fig. 3A,B), whereas WT mice exhibit robust NF-κB-mediated pro-inflammatory signaling that results in pancreatitis and consequent histological changes.
