The enzymatic elimination of ADMA is carried out by dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase, and the activity of this enzyme is inhibited by oxidized Low-density Lipoprotein (LDL) and Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-α), as seen in atherosclerosis [30], which would increase ADMA levels and reduce NO production.
