In order to validate this finding of a general decrease in the levels of GRP78 protein in PD patients, the western blot experiment from Baek et al. (2016) was repeated (Figure 1D,E), in which the authors showed that the levels of GRP78 protein in patients with Parkinson’s disease with dementia (PDD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) were significantly higher compared to control subjects and AD patients in the cingulate gyrus. The gene discussed is HSPA5; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
