Because this phenomenon can be explained in terms of the ability of LSD1 to specifically target a distal enhancer that controls SOX2 expression in stem-like cells, we hypothesized that oleacein should prevent the overexpression of SOX2 in breast cancer stem cells (CSC) via LSD1-regulated re-activation of this enhancer in the SOX2 promoter [33,35,36,37,38,39,40,41,42].
