Importantly, further bioinformatic assays of a public human breast cancer data set (GSE9014) of stromal gene expression revealed a statistically significant correlation between the transcript levels of ZEB1 and these TP53 targeting genes (i.e., FGF2, FGF7, VEGFA and IL6) in the tumour stroma (Fig. 8b), emphasising the clinical relevance of the ZEB1-TP53 connection in breast tumour stroma. Here, TP53 is linked to breast carcinoma.
