In this study, the increase of angiogenic factors including VEGF and Arg-1 in macrophages due to tumor-derived lactate under hypoxic conditions affected the activation of endothelial cells for neovascularization and M2-like polarization of macrophages in vitro and in vivo (Figure 5), whereas the reduction of tumor-derived lactate by MA treatment under hypoxic conditions showed an inhibition of neovascularization and M2-like polarization of macrophages by suppressing VEGF and Arg-1 expression (Figure 5).
