Infection with T. gondii led to a dramatic expansion of CD14+CD16− classical monocytes (p < 0.001; ANOVA) with a simultaneous strong decrease of CD14+CD16+ intermediate (p < 0.001) and a moderate decrease of CD14dimCD16+ non-classical monocytes (p < 0.01), as compared to non-infected controls (Figures 3B–D). This evidence concerns the gene CD14 and infection.
