An expansion of CD14+CD16− monocytes (p < 0.001) and a concomitant reduction of CD14+CD16+ and CD14dimCD16+ (p < 0.05 and p < 0.001, respectively) monocytes after infection became also evident when results were compared to cells freshly isolated from the buffy coats (i.e., at time point 0 in Figures 3B–D). This evidence concerns the gene CD14 and infection.
