Dysregulated lipid metabolism is common in obesity and diabetes; the increased levels of free fatty acids (FFA) in the bloodstream can inhibit the antilipolytic action of insulin and alter the permeability of the blood brain barrier (BBB) resulting in FFA infiltrating in the brain and contributing to brain damage and declining cognitive functions [7, 8]. Here, INS is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
