PGC‐1α is decreased in various in vivo models of heart failure, including transverse aortic constriction (TAC) in mice (Arany et al., 2006; Huss et al., 2007) and congestive heart failure in rats (Garnier et al., 2003), suggesting that decreased PGC‐1α is a common feature of cardiac diseases. The gene discussed is PPARGC1A; the disease is congestive heart failure.
