ATAD1 and malaria: The merozoite surface protein-1 (msp-1) and merozoite surface protein-2 (msp-2) are asexual blood stage antigens that are considered prime candidates for the development of malaria vaccine, and also suitable markers used extensively to identify genetically distinct Plasmodium falciparum parasite sub-populations in many malaria endemic countries as well as to distinguish recrudescence to re-infection in anti-malarial drug trials and efficacy [16-18].
