It has been reported that it takes at-least 6–15 weeks for carnosine wash out from the skeletal muscle (Baguet et al., 2009), and ATPGD1 is a sluggish enzyme, suggesting that 3-days of ischemia might not be sufficient to diminish the carnosine levels in the ischemic limb. This evidence concerns the gene CARNS1 and ischemia.
