In this study, we did not find any significant interaction between the FTO alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase (FTO) variants (rs1421085) and PNPLA3 (rs738409) indicating that the effect of FTO on pathogenesis of NAFLD is not directly dependent on PNPLA3 genotypes but more likely by means of increasing BMI-set point. The gene discussed is PNPLA3; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
